A magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck about 21 kilometers west-southwest of Petrolia in Monterey County early Saturday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The temblor hit at 11:54 a.m. PT at a depth of 6 kilometers.

The USGS indicates two people reported feeling the quake. There is no immediate word on damage or injuries. Petrolia, located in the remote Big Sur region, is one of California's most isolated coastal communities.
