A magnitude 2.7 earthquake rattled an area roughly 60 kilometers west of Petrolia early Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake struck at 7:59 a.m. PT with a shallow depth of just 1 kilometer.

Petrolia sits in Humboldt County on California's remote Lost Coast. The sparsely populated region sees occasional seismic activity but reports of damage or injury from temblors this size are uncommon. No immediate reports of structural damage have been received.
