A magnitude 2.9 earthquake rattled the South Lake Tahoe area late Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake struck at 11:58 p.m. PT about 10 kilometers west-southwest of South Lake Tahoe at a depth of 7 kilometers.

The USGS reports that 83 people felt the temblor. No immediate reports of damage or injuries have been reported. The epicenter places the quake in the Sierra Nevada region near the California-Nevada border.
