Los Angeles Fire Department and emergency crews are responding to a major traffic collision on the 180 Freeway southbound near downtown LA that has prompted an extrication response. The crash was reported at 2:13 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

The nature and scale of the collision remain unclear at this early stage. LAFD's dispatch of extrication equipment suggests at least one vehicle may be damaged badly enough to require crews to cut occupants free.
