CALAVERAS SUPERVISOR'S NAME APPEARS IN DOJ EPSTEIN RECORDS, LOCAL PAPER REPORTS
CALWIRE did not conduct this reporting. What follows summarizes reporting published by The Union Democrat and records released by the U.S. Department of Justice, both linked below. The newspaper that reviewed the records reported that they do not accuse the supervisor of wrongdoing. Appearing in a document release is not an accusation.

A Calaveras County supervisor’s name appears in email records released by the U.S. Department of Justice as part of its Jeffrey Epstein disclosures, The Union Democrat reported on Feb. 20 — correspondence dating to a job he held more than a decade ago, and which the newspaper said does not accuse him of any wrongdoing.
The Union Democrat reported that District 3 Supervisor Martin Huberty’s name appears in 14 documents out of the more than three million Epstein-related records the Justice Department has released. The emails, the paper reported, date primarily from 2009 and 2010, when Huberty worked as chief of staff to Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York.
The newspaper stated its conclusion plainly: “The documents reviewed by The Union Democrat do not accuse Huberty of wrongdoing or suggest he was involved in Epstein’s criminal activity.” It described the correspondence as appearing to relate to his professional role managing communications for Ferguson’s philanthropic and business ventures.
Huberty, elected to a four-year term in 2022, confirmed to the paper that the emails were genuine and characterized the contact as an “infinitesimally small piece” of roughly ten years of work with Ferguson.
“I stand behind all the work that I’ve done in the film business, all the movies I helped produce, all the work I did with the duchess, and all the work I’m doing within Calaveras County,” he told the newspaper.
According to the paper’s account of the documents, a June 2009 email shows Huberty contacting an Epstein associate to arrange a call between Epstein and Ferguson about a venture called Mothers Army, which published accounts have described as a media and branding project focused on mothers and families. The only direct exchange between Huberty and Epstein that the paper identified was a March 2010 email forwarding a business agreement at Ferguson’s request.
Huberty told the paper that a great deal more had become known about Epstein in the 16 years since, and that many business people appear in the files without having done anything wrong: “There’s 3 million documents and 3 million more, so 6 million altogether is what I’m being told, and yeah, I think you’re gonna find a lot of business people whose names appear but haven’t done anything nefarious.”
The records themselves

The Justice Department released roughly three million additional pages on Jan. 30, 2026, which Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said satisfied a requirement of the Epstein Files Transparency Act passed by Congress. News accounts of the release reported it also included more than 2,000 videos and about 180,000 images, and that the department had produced on the order of 3.5 million pages in total, with extensive redactions, after missing an earlier December deadline.
The release drew criticism from survivors’ advocates, who said victims were identified in the files while some accused individuals’ names were redacted.
Epstein pleaded guilty in Florida in 2008 to procuring a minor for prostitution. He died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal child sex trafficking charges.
The Ferguson connection
Ferguson’s relationship with Epstein has drawn renewed attention since the release. She has consistently denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein, and published reports do not indicate she has been charged with any offense.

Her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on Feb. 19, 2026, on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to news reports, which said the allegation concerns information he is said to have shared with Epstein while serving as a UK trade envoy, not allegations of sexual misconduct. Those reports said he was released while the investigation continues. He has denied wrongdoing.
